The True Story Behind the Angry Elephant

The elephant in the video was named "Kalidassan" and began to rampage while part of a 12 elephant group a parade route in India.

Kalidassan the Elephant

The elephant attack video was captured by a witness and distributed by Caters News:

“The elephants are decorated with beautiful caparisons and made to parade for as long as 10 kilometers [6 miles] on a single day of festival, carrying effigies of deities amid noise of orchestra and fireworks that sometimes agitate the highly-sensitive animals and result in such incidents.”

The elephant did survive, though the rampage lasted 4 hours and ended with multiple tranquilizers from "Animal Squad".

Here is the original video (1x speed):

This is the second time an elephant has rampaged in India in a month; all in all as many as 300 people a year are killed by elephants in Inida.

Advocates for elephant protection are urged to explore "Gods in Shackles" to learn more about the plight of elephants in captivity.

Leave the animals alone! Get off his back and let him either go back to the wild or at least live in a sanctuary . Why do you force these animals to live lives filled with frustration? Shame on you!

Thank you for sharing this information. I was most concerned he would have been 'punished'. I will go the link you shared.

It appears the elephant's PTSD caught up and everybody else is suffering the consequences due to his abuse since birth. That's how most of them are. Hell! Would you not get mad if somebody was trying to beat you all the time. Just because animals can't talk doesn't mean they don't understand.

Leave them alone. There is no need for such crual acts on these poor Animals.
You should be so ashamed of yourselves.

Male elephants do get into the must from time to time. The Mahout should habe seen that.

When wild animals with wild instincts are forced to live lives of fear in cramped conditions, they may go mad from the boredom and unpleasantness of their situations. Leave wild animals wild! Stop forcing them to "perform" unnatural acts! Joyce

We can learn so much from animals if we take the time to stop assuming we're the smarter animal. Dogs, cats, birds, snakes, etc. all teach us something we choose to ignore.

Take your time. Look in your dog or cat's eyes and see what they are really telling you..

All wild animals should be free. There's other ways to embrace your culture. Stop being cruel, they deserve a better life.

poor elephant... he is highly intelligent and one who loves to be in a tribe of his own. Can you imagine the loneliness and cruelty of being a slave? see the chains on his legs. He is fed up and no one is listening so he has got very angry. Let the poor animals live their own lives and go get yourself a bicycle!

I would like to know or see what happened before this. Don't know if they were hitting the animal to get him to walk or screaming at him or all the commotion that was going on or what. That it was definitely upset about something. Poor elephant, sad situation.

They done went and Pissed that Elephant off and could not stop his anger....Leave those beautiful animals alone and find something else to ride. You don't want nobody riding your back with all that loud noise in the background and that Hot Mess on his head...I would be pissed and MOVE SOME FURNITURE AROUND too. Get the HELL outta here with all this RITUAL crap!

Glad he is safe and didn't kill nobody!

I truly don't care how many humans have been killed by elephants. Humans have taken their space and chained and tortured these beautiful mammals for entertainment. The more humans they kill the better. One monster in human form is more dangerous then a family of elephants.
